Google Maps is a web mapping service developed by Google which works on both Android and iOS devices. It offers satellite imagery, aerial photography, street maps, 360° panoramic views of streets real-time traffic conditions and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bicycle, and air or public transportation.

There is only one voice per language or dialect. Everyone, at some point, gets bored from listening to the same navigator again and again. Here’s how to change the Google Maps voices in both iOS and Android.


iPhone and iPad users can’t change the voice of Google Maps navigation from within the app. You need to reinstall the app and change the device’s default language.


  1. Click on the Google Maps icon until the “X” mark appears in its upper-left corner.
  2. Tap on the “X” mark.
  3. Click on the “Delete” option.
  4. Press the “Home” button.
  5. Launch the “Settings” app from the Home screen.
  6. Tap on the “General” tab.
  7. Tap on the “Language & Region” tab.
  8. Depending on the device select “iPhone Language” or “iPad Language”.
  9. Select the language or the dialect you want to use.
  10. Click on “Done”.
  11. If your device asks you to configure Siri, tap the “Continue” option and select “Set up Siri Later in Settings”.
  12. Launch the App Store.
  13. Browse for the Google Maps app.
  14. Tap the “Download” icon.
  15. Launch Google Maps to test your new settings.


There are two ways to change the voice of the Google Maps navigation on an Android device– from within the app which is the easier one and by reinstalling the app.

  1. Click on the app icon to launch Google Maps on your tablet or phone.
  2. Change Google Maps Voice.
  3. Tap on the Main Menu icon in the top-left section of the screen.
  4. Click on the “Settings”.
  5. Locate and tap on the “Navigation settings” tab in the “Settings”.
  6. Click on the “Voice Selection” in the Navigation Settings.
  7. Choose the language you want.
  8. Select the “Back” button. This will take you back to the map.
  9. Enter your current position into the upper text box.
  10. Enter the destination into the lower text box.
  11. Tap on the “Go” button.
  12. Click on the “Start” button.

Google Maps takes its language settings from the device’s language settings after it is installed on your device. So you can the voice settings by uninstalling and then again installing it.

  1. Delete the Google Maps or uninstall it via the Google Play Store app.
  2. From the Home screen launch the “Settings” app.
  3. Select the “System” section.
  4. Depending on the device click on the “Language” or “Language & Input”.
  5. Tap the “Language” tab.
  6. Change Google Maps Language.
  7. Select any language of your choice.
  8. Click on the “Home” button to exit.
  9. Launch the Play Store.
  10. Browse for the Google Maps app.
  11. Tap on install “Install” button.
